E*TRADE had a successful 2008 Super Bowl with their Trading Baby commercials (see above). According to a recent article by AdAge, they saw a 32% increase in funded accounts opened following the game. Will they have the same return this year with their spots, and even if so, will it be enough to make up for a dismal economy that has investors petrified? Who knows - but, I do love me a talking baby.
Here are some of the outtakes that likely won't air during the Super Bowl - I'm confident that these are better than the actual commercials.

ReplyDeletei wonder if e*trade had to film this abroad to avoid prosecution for using child labor. seems likely....
ReplyDeleteLooks like they had a good January though obviously they're down given the economy. Below is a quote from a CNBC article:
ReplyDelete"Daily average revenue trades for the month rose 2.8 percent from December to 184,158, but were down 8.3 percent from the year-ago period.
The online broker said it opened 75,141 gross new retail accounts in January, however that was a 30.4 percent drop from the 107,978 accounts opened in January 2008. At month-end, E-Trade had 4.56 million retail accounts."

I would imagine the vast majority of their business is US based but not exactly sure - does anyone else know?
