On the topic of zombies, one of the most entertaining works I've read in past few years is World War Z by Max Brooks. Great read that is more a statement/expose on the nature of man than the walking dead.
This kid has some moves - I really credit the cameraman (or woman) with not laughing while holding the camera. I would be convulsing I'm pretty sure, rendering the act unfilmable.

Is it just me or does it seem like there's an inordinate amount of doomsday movies coming out recently? I'm curious if everything happening with the the War on Terror, the financial crisis, swine flue and everything else is increasing our desire for escapeism, which Hollywood is cashing in on?

I'm participating in a panel discussion on social media today in Hong Kong, sponsored by MRM Worldwide. I've been doing quite a bit of research to understand the risks, rewards and strategies for brands considering social media as part of their marketing mix. Ultimately, I think the discussion is very similar to that of how campaigns become viral. Social media isn't worth much if impressions remain low; but it definitely becomes worth something (good, bad, unsure) once an element of it becomes viral.
My recommendation to brands is to get on Facebook, YouTube and Answers first and see where that takes you. And contrary to others, I do believe it's possible to dip your toe in the water with these platforms if you have the right person in charge of the campaigns. Social media is NOT the end-all-be-all; it's simply another part of the online marketing equation. So take it slow and steady and learn to walk before you consider running.

Just had the pleasure to see this again on TV the other day. Thanks to Hong Kong HBO censoring, every F-bomb was edited out. How can it even be the same movie???? Surprisingly, it was still funny, but not nearly the same thing. Anyways, here are some of the best scenes for your enjoyment.
Sondre Lerche is a critically acclaimed Norwegian musician with a decent fan base, but his big break came when he was asked to score the soundtrack for Dan in Real Life from 2007. I loved the movie and the soundtrack was one of the main reasons. See it if you're a music and/or a Steve Carrell fan. Watch the trailer here.
Directed by Derick Martini; starring Alec Baldwin, Kieran and Rory Culkin, Jill Hennessy, Timothy Hutton, Cynthia Nixon and Emma Roberts.
Still one of my favorite bands to shake a leg to.
One of my favorite live albums of all time.
Why is it funny when dogs do it but when I do it, it's assault? Can you say, "double standard"???
According do Wikipedia, microlending is defined as the extension of very small loans (microloans) to those in poverty designed to spur entrepreneurship. These individuals lack collateral, steady employment and a verifiable credit history and therefore cannot meet even the most minimal qualifications to gain access to traditional credit. Microcredit is a part of microfinance, which is the provision of a wider range of financial services to the very poor.
The site mentioned in this piece is MicroPlace; check it out here.
Starring Kate Beckinsale as an Arctic police officer. Sounds feasible.
Funny man Louis CK answers questions from TIME readers - good stuff.
I saw Bruno while on vacation (which I enjoyed immensely). One of the now famous scenes is where he supposedly sits down with a "terrorist" to ask to be kidnapped in the hopes that it will make him famous. It is pretty funny the way it appears in the movie but I'm disappointed to think that the entire thing was staged and in fact largely invented/edited. It does not take away from the fact that the movie was much more hilarious and offensive than the trailer lets on.
This is a fantastically underrated and hilarious show. As always, Neil Patrick Harris rocks.
As a tribute to the country where I'll be leaving for (starting tomorrow), enjoy this set by Phoenix.
"Oh yah! I used that wood for my steam room. Now I get to rub my nuts all over your house, biotch!"
Cool music video from Australian duo Angus & Julia Stone.
I first got into Regina Spektor after hearing her duet with Sondre Lerche in the soundtrack for Dan In Real Life (check it out if you haven't seen it). This is a much more somber but equally addictive song. Enjoy!
For anyone that knows me, I love this guy and his humor. Check out his site.
Directed by John Hillcoat; starring Viggo Mortensen, Charlize Theron, Robert Duvall, Guy Pearce
I was watching this episode on TV one weekend not too long ago and this scene literally had me in tears.
Tim Hanlon addresses the future of agencies at the recent Advertising 2.0 conference. He's the managing director of VivaKi, the year-old Publicis entity that's an investment arm and think tank for new digital marketing strategies.
I can't be kind about this because these people are watching the Flinstones as if it was a documentary.
I've seen a lot more of Mark Bittman on TV since coming to Hong Kong and watching LOTS of Asian Food Channel. I thought he was annoying at first (and you may also) but am coming to respect him as a a talented journalist and food expert, as he is internationally known. I thought this was a good clip where he discusses some of his ethical views on the seafood he does and does NOT eat.
Documentary about the Zaire 74 concert held in tandem with the Ali-Foreman "Rumble in the Jungle", featuring James Brown, B.B. King, bill Withers and many more great African American artists.

"Watch the sass, Captain Sassy Pants"

I found this to be a very interesting clip where Lizzie O'Leary explains how she tells a story with numbers. Definitely useful for aspiring reporters, but it's certainly applicable to only one that works with data (sorry for sound cut-off in last few seconds).
Here's her advise in a nut-shell:
1.) Find a face that can be associated with the data
2.) Examine how that person's story can be applied/viewed on a much larger and/or Global scale.
3.) Look into other trends/behavior tied to the original data set you started with.
I like her quote at 2:10, that "economics, and telling stories about economics, is a collection of little data points of human behavior."
Melody Gardot was born 1985 and raised in Philadelphia PA. She was disabled at 19 after being struck by a car while riding her bike, and she turned to musical therapy for her recovery. Check out her site here.

In the above click, Time interviews regular people on the street about their thoughts on MJ's songs and passing.
Nowhere did the news spread faster than in cyberspace; get a load of some of these stats from Yahoo! (borrowed from Silicon Alley Insider):
Why all the buzz? Obviously the man was larger than life, not only because of his music but because of his numerous eccentricities. True, there was definitely a time when he went off the deep end a little bit and only a few peopl actually know what he may or may not be guilty of. But if you had the life that he had, it would be a rare thing to come out on the other end without needing some serious counseling, medication, and more likely both. Jackson went went from child to Megastar overnight and was forced to deal with all the pressure, attention and expectation that comes along with it. It's clear he made mistakes along the way, like we all do.
Still unsure how big a deal his career and music was to the world? Check out some of these facts:

The cover is alright but I think it's perfectly matched in theme and feel with the video.
This would've definitely made my Boy Scouts experience 1000% better.
Funny, disturbing and brilliant all at the same time. The crazy thing is that they really didn't need to do THAT MUCH editing to make this footage as crazy as it is. No diss to whomever did the editing, but seriously, you didn't need to work that hard on this bad boy.
